Recheck Certified Code of Conduct

The standards every Recheck Certified professional commits to.

This Code of Conduct defines the standards every Recheck Certified professional agrees to follow. It is the basis for maintaining your certification — violations may result in investigation, suspension, or revocation of your Recheck Certified status.

The Recheck training program teaches you how to meet these standards in practice. This document defines what you are committing to.

1. Truthful Representation

You will represent yourself, your company, and the products you sell honestly and accurately. You will not mislead homeowners about any part of a solar transaction. You will not make verbal promises or guarantees that go beyond or contradict the customer's written contract. If you don't know the answer to a customer's question, say so — do not guess.

For example
  1. Do not misrepresent your identity, employer, or professional affiliation. Do not claim to represent a utility company, government agency, or any organization you are not authorized to represent.
  2. Do not misrepresent system performance, energy production estimates, or how much a solar system will reduce the customer's electric bill.
  3. Do not guarantee savings amounts or make up rate escalation numbers. Present estimates as estimates, not promises.
  4. Do not overstate warranty coverage or duration.
  5. Do not misrepresent project timelines, permitting processes, or what work will be done.

I agree to represent myself, my company, and my products truthfully.

2. Financial Transparency

You will clearly and accurately explain the financial terms of any deal before the homeowner commits. You will not hide, misrepresent, or leave out financial information the customer needs to make their decision.

For example
  1. Do not misrepresent the ownership structure of a deal. Clearly explain the difference between a purchase, loan, lease, and power purchase agreement. Do not tell a customer they own a system when they do not.
  2. Do not misrepresent loan terms, interest rates, dealer fees, payment escalators, or total cost of financing.
  3. Do not promise incentives, tax credits, or rebates that the customer may not qualify for. Say "you may qualify" — not "you will receive."
  4. Do not hide liens or other financial claims that will be placed on the customer's property.

I agree to be clear and accurate about the financial terms of every deal.

3. Document Integrity

You will make sure that all documents in a solar transaction are real, accurate, and completed with the customer's knowledge and agreement. You will never forge, falsify, or alter documents.

For example
  1. Only the customer or their legal representative may sign documents on the customer's behalf. No one else.
  2. Do not falsify information on loan applications, credit documents, or any financial paperwork. Do not inflate income, make up employment information, or submit applications without the customer's knowledge.
  3. Do not change contracts, proposals, or other documents after a customer has reviewed or signed them.
  4. Do not use anyone's personal information for a transaction they did not directly and knowingly authorize.
  5. Protect customer personal information. Do not store it on personal devices or share it outside of authorized business systems. Do not keep sensitive information — like financial documents, IDs, or credit information — after the deal is done.
  6. Make sure the customer gets copies of everything they sign and has enough time to review documents before signing.

I agree to keep all transaction documents real, accurate, and properly authorized.

4. Respect for Consumers

You will treat every homeowner with respect and fairness. You will not use undue pressure or manipulation to close a sale, and you will never take advantage of a customer's vulnerability.

For example
  1. Do not use high-pressure tactics like making up deadlines, creating false urgency, or pushing customers to sign before they've had time to review their options.
  2. Do not target or take advantage of people who are more vulnerable to pressure or less able to evaluate a deal — including elderly customers, people not fully fluent in English, or people with limited financial literacy.
  3. Do not undermine verification processes designed to protect the customer, like lender verification calls or welcome calls.
  4. Do not harass or intimidate customers at any point during or after the sales process.
  5. Respect do-not-contact requests, do-not-solicit signs, and any request to leave. Stop contact immediately.
  6. Respect the customer's legal right to cancel and do not try to discourage or block cancellation.

I agree to treat every homeowner with respect and fairness.

5. Legal Compliance

You will follow all federal, state, and local laws that apply to selling solar energy systems. Breaking the law is also a violation of this Code. Legal requirements vary by state and sales channel — it is your responsibility to know and follow the rules that apply to your work.

Many of the things this Code prohibits — forgery, identity theft, falsifying loan applications, misrepresenting financial terms — are not just certification violations. They are crimes. Recheck enforces this Code independently, but the legal consequences can go well beyond losing your certification.

For example
  1. Maintain all licenses and registrations required in the states where you work.
  2. Follow all state and local consumer protection laws, including door-to-door sales rules, cancellation notice requirements, and required disclosures.

I agree to follow all federal, state, and local laws that apply to my work.

6. Professional Conduct

You will act with integrity and uphold the reputation of the solar industry and the Recheck Certified program. Your conduct reflects on every Certified Professional.

For example
  1. Do not act in ways that are dishonest, deceptive, or harmful to homeowners, contractors, fellow sales professionals, or the industry.
  2. Do not knowingly help, cover for, or benefit from the misconduct of others.

I agree to act with integrity and uphold the reputation of the industry.

7. Cooperation with Recheck

You will participate honestly and in good faith in Recheck's certification and enforcement processes.

For example
  1. Respond truthfully and completely to any Recheck investigation or question about your conduct.
  2. Do not retaliate against, threaten, or discourage anyone from reporting concerns to Recheck or any other authority.
  3. Do not try to get around or undermine Recheck's certification requirements or enforcement processes.

I agree to cooperate honestly with Recheck's certification and enforcement processes.

8. Enforcement

Recheck may investigate potential violations of this Code based on reports from the Recheck platform, partner organizations, regulators, or other credible sources. The outcome depends on the nature and severity of the violation. Investigations may result in:

Warning
For minor or first-time issues where corrective action is appropriate.
Suspension
Temporary loss of Certified status while an investigation or corrective action is pending.
Revocation
Permanent loss of Certified status for serious or repeated violations.

All enforcement decisions are at Recheck's sole discretion. Refusing to cooperate with an investigation can itself lead to suspension or revocation.

I understand that violations may result in warning, suspension, or revocation of my Recheck Certified status.
